Enough is enough (atleast for now...)

Enough 1
Coats L to R: Rick Owens, Dior Homme, BCBGeneration x 2, Missoni/Target x 2

Inspired by Things we don't need to buy (ever, or for a while) thread on tpf and my present purge mode, there are certain categories in my wardrobe where I feel content that I have enough of enough. As a disclaimer my enough is enough threshold may be higher or lower than someone else's. I'm a minimalist in other areas of my life--my wardrobe is not one of them.

I downsized several coats from my wardrobe in the last few years. I owned too many coats for living in the tropics and even before the purge, none of them were sufficient for rain or fall/winter travels. I now added in 2 coats, one wool and one for rain.

Still perfectly content with these 3 watches: white ceramic, steel/rose gold two-tone, and black leather band with white/silver face.

Trouser socks
When I do wear socks, footies or sneaker socks are usually sufficient for my needs.

Hair elastics
Oddly enough I won a giveaway many many years ago and I am still set for life.

Black is my eternal weakness (enough really is enough) and my whites and stripes are sufficient. With other colors, I buy, then I don't wear, then I purge. Then for some reason, I end up repurchasing to fill a gap, and the cycle repeats. Moral of the story: it's rare when I wear a tee that isn't black, white, or striped.

My wrists are too small and I don't wear them enough to add any more.

My tastes in jeans are fairly classic, I like a low-rise, slim fit in a normal color without rips or jazzy back pockets. I have 6 pairs total: dark wash flare, medium blue boot cut (for nostalgia), dark wash slim, medium blue slim, white slim, and my wildcard black wax.

Wallets/Small Leather Goods
Having 3 wallets and plenty of those little zippered pouches, I cannot justify more.

3 is enough.

Have not bought a bag since 2015. I am content, for now...

What do you have enough of?

Wardrobe MVPs 2016

Wardrobe MVPs 2016

VS wireless bras
I cleaned out my ill-fitting (mostly VS!) bras and these were some replacements. I'd prefer to gravitate away from VS, but they are admittedly convenient and Gap Body (though better quality) can be too boring or too "pretty" for my tastes. I know bralettes are a thing now, but how do you navigate the show-through factor? If you have recommendations for other brands let me know.

Gucci 1116/S Sunglasses
Without a doubt the #1 MVP of 2016. These are actually my second pair. Yes, so nice, I bought them twice. I stupidly damaged the first pair on vacation and these are too essential to my existence as a human being to be without them. I'm not joking.

Kenneth Cole flats
These also did not survive Morocco, so I'm on my 2nd pair. Technically I bought these 3x last year since I also have a navy suede version.

H&M black suede pants/leggings
Instant wardrobe staple, perfect with any of my Rick Owens tunics and I know its good when take it to travel.

Tahari black neoprene ankle boots
A spontaneous TJ Maxx find. You know how the shoes tend to be next to the beauty products? That's how these happened. Once I got over my buyer's guilt, I found myself wearing them quite often--especially with my RO bias pants. Very comfortable and very me.

H&M black trousers
Nothing wow here, just basic black trousers to replace a worn to death pair and H&M carries pants that actually (and consistently) fit me

F21 long camis in black and nude: (not pictured)
longer ones to replace the ones that kept riding up.

Gap Body teal racerback bra (not pictured)
I wish this was black!!! Teal is fine though.

Uniqlo Airism, Heattech black men's tees (not pictured)
Because the women's ones were always sold out, I resorted to ordering the men's. Being a looser fit I can't determine if the Heattech was particularly great at keeping me warm or the Airism was particularly great at keeping me cool. But I wear black tees virtually everyday so naturally these became part of the rotation.

Overall my MVPs are subtle basic pieces, which is the foundation of my wardrobe. But because I reached a point where I have them in excess, I am now including them into my French 5 count for 2017.

What were your MVPs of 2016?

Rick Owens 2016 Haul

Finally getting around to posting and recapping some of 2016. I tried to film a version of this, but after not being happy with the footage I will stick to plain old blogging. I thought my Rick Owens pieces from 2016 deserved its own category apart from my overall MVPs of 2016. Despite having a full closet, I gravitated towards the Rick Owens section in my downtime last year. I'm also including 2 non-RO pieces from last year that compliment the RO aesthetic. Since these don't always have the best hanger appeal, I wore them all at some point in my last outfit post.

RO 2016 Haul- 1
Rick Owens Lilies Tornado white maxi dress - This is the mama to my shorter tunic Tornado that I love so much. When the box arrived and the grey tote it came with made me so sincerely happy. I had Moroccan visions in this dress, but it ended up being too cold and too dirty to wear it any where but one evening in the hotel. My God I will never tire of looking at this dress, it really is too beautiful.

3 Dots white cardigan- I bought this specifically to pair with my Tornado since the drape and collar echo the RO aesthetic so well and also because I don't wear short anything in public ever.

RO 2016 Haul- 2
Rick Owens bias black pants - These were a definite MVP of 2016. Despite the bias pants being a signature staple that gets produced year after year (fabric varies depending on the season), I wasn't compelled until I saw them on someone @ RO Miami wearing it with the beater tank. So beautiful, elegant, and flattering, as bias cuts are meant to be (think Galliano-era Dior slip dresses). Whenever I wear these I feel like the Yves Saint Laurent woman in the alleyway

Simply Vera black cardigan - If you're familiar with the Simply Vera (Vera Wang) line you may have noticed that some of their pieces echo RO. I've even seen them churn out some Naska-esque jackets very recently. Anyway, this pairs nicely with the bias pants and serves as a replacement for a destroyed F21 version I bought eons ago.

RO 2016 Haul- 3
Rick Owens Drkshdw black asymmetric tunic- Like the Tornado and bias pants this is another piece that I've seen reproduced over the years. That's why with RO (or any designer for that matter) I rarely if ever look at anyone's runway shows. This and any of my RO tunics pair well with my black wax, suede, or leather bottoms.

Rick Owens Fall 2014 Moody tunic- Now this is a departure from what I usually go for when shopping for RO. You'll find me after the distinctive, year after year, season after season pieces. But there are those rare occasions when not only WHOLLY GRAIL but RUNWAY find their way to me. I fell in love with this hard via Net A Porter, which is not hard to do, let's be honest their headless model makes everything look amazing and their styling is always on point. But I did not even consider it seriously since it was way out of my stratosphere. Then it went down to Outnet, still another planet, and once it hit The Real was still a splurge but the love was too strong. The hanger does not even do this justice, since the back has a mile long zipper that hugs the curve of the spine. I'm not good at romanticizing with words, but this is one of those pieces that garners compliments because the design is so striking yet somehow coasts right under the radar.

Did you pick up any Rick Owens or your favorite brands last year?
Also I've been giving Pret a little nip tuck, let me know if you prefer the larger images and thank you for reading.
